A new interface for a new Palm device? Matias Duarte, the designer of the Sidekick interface is now working at Palm
Anyone else around that still cares about Palm? They used to be good, with great product design and smart interfaces, they knew where it was at. The past few years haven't been kind to Palm -- what with their identity crisis both as a brand and as a thought-leader; a tumultuous period of transition, if ever there was one.
Well, here is some good news for us Palm fans: Engadget reports that the person behind the slick interface of the Sidekick and the Helio has now taken up residence at Palm.
Matias Duarte, the designer in question, has been confirmed by Palm to be in their employ. This is exciting news since Palm has been promising something revolutionary ever since their spun-off company PalmSource adopted Linux as their core OS kernel. Palm's interface has been stuck in design limbo for ages now. What was once a masterful interface, especially for one-handed operation, now seem archaic next to the likes of the Apple iPhone.
