F-Secure is launching a new version of its smartphone security solution with an advanced anti-theft feature that includes remote locking and wiping of confidential data if the phone is lost or stolen.

The theft control feature activates when the SIM card is changed by locking the device and sending the new SIM information to the owner. Another remarkable safety measure to prevent misuse is that software erases all the data on the phone with remote wipe by sending an SMS message.

F-Secure Mobile Security also protects against spyware. It combines real-time antivirus protection with a customizable firewall to make your phone completely safe against mobile malware.

An advanced 2-layer update mechanism automatically retrieves the newest malware definitions and updates, whenever any data connection is used. The SMS update mechanism patented by F-Secure ensures that critical updates are received even when a data connection is not available.

The new F-Secure Mobile Security 5 will be available via Tata Communications from December 5 for subscribers at promotional rate of Rs. 999 per year and through retail channels like Chroma at Rs. 1700 plus taxes. You can also download it from F-Secure eStore.

The software will run on smartphones using the S60 3rd edition and Windows Mobile smartphone users can expect it in early 2009.
