Samsung Telecommunications and Tata Teleservices have unveiled the country's first touch screen-based dual SIM smart world phone, the Samsung Duo.
Unlike other phones, the Samsung Duo contains 2 SIM slots that would allow customers continue with their existing numbers, while switching to the Tata Indicom network. The Samsung Duo features a 2.2-inch TFT touch screen, a 1.3 mega pixels camera, micro SD card slot, and MP3/AAC+ player with A2DP Bluetooth support.
It packs-in handwriting recognition, file viewer, sketch memo, organiser, and India-specific applications like Panchang or Indian calendar, Hinglish, mobile prayer, and cricket scorer.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinayak Deshpande, president of enterprise solutions, Tata Teleservices Limited, said, "This is an extension of our commitment, and in line with our strategy to offer superior CDMA technology to our customers, and facilitate customers from any network to switch to Tata Indicom and thereby experience the difference. The introduction of the Samsung Duo is an opportunity for customers to now move to Tata Indicom without worrying about voice clarity, call drops, or their old numbers."
Hyunbai Kim, head of CDMA division, Samsung Telecommunications India, said, "Today, we are pleased to launch Samsung Duo - a smart world phone. With it's Global Roaming Capability, advanced features, Samsung Duo would delight Indian consumers. We value our association with Tata Indicom, and look forward to further strengthening Tata Indicom's Handset Portfolio."
According to Samsung and Tata, the Duo supports robust data speeds of up to 153kbps on the Tata Indicom network.
It is available for Rs 11,999.
Meanwhile, Tata Teleservices is planning a usage discount of Rs 200 for 2 months to reduce the pinch of paying monthly rentals for 2 connections. Also to help customers use both CDMA and GSM numbers at the same time, the company is planning on a 2-months rental waiver on the Friends & Family Add-on Pack.

i am a d 88 spice duel user...reliance / airtel, both work fine, but the shortcoming is bluetooth and fm...its missing in this spice cdma/gsm duel,camera is pathatic.not worth... plus pricing is little more

Dear friend, Samsung Duo does NOT support simultaneous connections. You can go for Spice D88 which supports one GSM and one CDMA connection and live at the same time.

this phone is use less.both the sim are not active at the same time.if your tata sim is on your other gsm sim remain shut down.you cannot attend other call alert if your tata sim is on.in all a useless phone.sorry but this time tata's launched a wrong and unsucessful idea.

The phone is great, but the things missing are: 1. No FM 2. Both SIMs cannot be active at the same time 3. Data cable not available. Till then, I am using a card reader for the Micro SD card Yes, it does accept 2 GSM sims. If you download video file through bluetooth, it will go to Pictures folder. Click on it and you can play the video file. The price in Delhi is Rs.11,999. It is available with Tata dealers. I tried Mobile Store, Reliance Digital, Subhiksha and Hotspot, but not available with them.

No, you cannot recieve calls on both the SIM at one time. You will have to switch between the 2 SIMS........

I am using this phone. You can use only one sim at a time, other number will give "this moble is switched off" message to the caller :-( . that apart, many features are missing like cell info display, also the blue tooth incomming messages are not shown in the inbox. text reader does not serve the purpose. it shows the entire page with very tiny text, so small, it is unusable unless magnified, if done you have to pan the page so much the buttons or your thumb will wear off. the down arrow is too close to cancel button.

Actually you can use both sim cards at the same time. Also dual sim cards do not work as the technology GSM/CDMA is different.

This is very attractive and looking is also very nice. But it should contain one keyboard also unless it is quite difficult to operate totally through touch screen. any way duel sim means very nice opportunity... one doubt one of the two sims must be a tata or anything else
