Samsung Labs Working On Next-Gen Phones?

Patents filed by Samsung Labs for uber-cool phones have been unearthed.
Ever since the release of full touch screen phone - Omnia - news hounds have been watching Samsung's upcoming mobile handsets. Samsung has already included contemporary 'cool' features in their mobile phones like touchscreen, scroll-bar joystick, touch pads, optical joysticks, etc. Unwired News snooped in the US Patents and Trademark Office's website which listed patents filed for four new mobile phones by Samsung Labs.
The first patent talks about Samsung's patent claims on a multi-rotating slider 'mobile phone' that closely resembles Sony Ericsson's rumoured PSP phone patents. Back in June 2007, rumors of Sony Ericsson filing a patent on PSP phone did the rounds. In March, yet another rumor cropped up on Unwired News reported another iPhone-like patent by Sony Ericsson.
As visible in the photo, the multi-rotating slider handset has two keypads located differently. The twistable and slider-like handset also shows possibilities of gaming on it.
Another Samsung patent is regarding a portable phone that looks like a normal phone but has a flexible display. The phone is like a compass which could be unfolded to get a wider display screen, turning it into a small tablet. Filed as a portable communication device, this handset design falls in the Mobile Internet Device segment. Read the patent claims for more details.
One of the handset designs includes a dual-touch screen clamshell model. The design shows a normal touch screen and the function's display is also touch screen. So the functions like keypad, scroll keys, menu buttons, etc. are displayed on the secondary touch screen.
Another phone design similar to the dual-touchscreen clamshell model draws inspiration from Art Lebedev's famous keyboard - Optimus Maximus - and has OLED displays for the keys.
The diagrams of all these handsets sure look uber-cool. While these patents are based on their lab developments, the actual implications are feasible and could turn out to be unique products. We'll just have to wait and watch.
