The company seems to have beaten Hitachi to it with its Spinpoint M6 drive.
Samsung and Hitachi had both announced, in the beginning of the year, their planned high-capacity laptop drives. Samsung is now reported to be the first mover.
Incidentally, Hitachi was the first to announce the launch of a 500GB laptop drive, the Travelstar 5K500; the company planned to make it commercially available in February. Earlier at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Asus announced the M70S laptop, with two 500 GB drives from Hitachi. But a look at www.hitachigst.com reveals that the Travelstar 5K500 is not yet available.
Then, just days later, Samsung announced the launch of its Spinpoint M6 500 GB drive. From recently-published reports, it seems Samsung might indeed be the first to ship the drives - in March -- to both PC makers as well as retailers.
Do you think that they will ignore the market for long ?? Considering the 2.5" 320 GB has already been launched, it's only a matter of time.

What's the use? Samsung is not marketing their drives in India. Waste of time these fellows.
