"HP Educenter Lab" is an innovative engineering learning program, comprising a digital library solution, multimedia content, and computing infrastructure.
SNDT Women's University, in collaboration with HP Labs India, today announced the launch of "HP Educenter Lab", an innovative engineering learning program comprising a digital library solution, multimedia content, and computing infrastructure.
A nodal association comprising all seven IITs and the IISc, NPTEL, has created multimedia content in Sengineering and science courses. "HP Educenter Lab" is designed to provide SNDT students the digital library and technology backbone for 'on demand' access to this high quality multimedia engineering course content.
"HP Educenter Lab" is based on a software developed indigenously out of HP's laboratories in Bangalore. It provides a solution for capturing, storing, editing, and using multimedia in the educational process, made available over LAN to students on an 'on-demand' basis.
"HP Educenter Lab" runs on an HP server, and performs several functions. It inter-works with a digital library, performs scheduled video capture from TV channels -- either from a cable or from DTH signals, efficiently streams out video and multimedia material to multiple users on a LAN, and enables any PC on the LAN to view a TV channel selected by the schedule on the server.
"HP Educenter Lab" also forms the basis of a video-on-demand solution wherein a large repository of about 1TB to 2TB storage capacity will be created and connected to the LAN of a university or college, and educational video content will be made available to students on demand via their laptops.
Speaking at the launch of the program, Dr C Krishnamurthy, vice chancellor of SNDT Women's University, Mumbai, said they are pleased to partner with HP Labs India on this pioneering initiative to change the way university education is delivered in India.
