Reliance Gets BlackBerry on CDMA

RCOM has launched the BlackBerry 8830 that allows interoperability between the CDMA and GSM network to enhance the productivity, the company claims.
Reliance Communications (RCOM) and Research In Motion (RIM) have announced the launch of the BlackBerry wireless platform on a CDMA network in India.
RCOM has launched the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone. The handset allows interoperability between the CDMA and GSM network to enhance the productivity of both enterprises and professionals on the move, the company claims.
The BlackBerry 8830 provides the user with email and messaging, along with premium phone features, Web browsing, and other mobile productivity applications.
The smartphone features a full QWERTY keyboard, large display, trackball navigation system, a microSD expandable memory slot, and an advanced media player for listening to music, viewing pictures, and watching videos.
BlackBerry offers a range of solutions for enterprises and professionals such as Internet-based online trading, for the first time in India, the company claims.
Prakash Bajpai, president of RCOM, said, As the first player to offer BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone in India, we're confident that our network will offer a superior value proposition to professionals on the move.
BlackBerry from Reliance offers other features like - bloomberg anywhere services, Reliance mobile world access to 23 fun applications, video streaming on BlackBerry, prepaid on BlackBerry for the first time in India, BlackBerry Enterprise Server for enterprise, and BlackBerry Internet Service for SME and professional.
Also the RCOM's CDMA-powered BlackBerry smartphones allow professionals and entrepreneurs access their business critical data, including PowerPoint presentations, multimedia files, graphs, etc. With the CDMA technology, users can download their mails and surf the net at faster speeds.
The models launched include - the BlackBerry Pearl for Rs 24,990, the BlackBerry 8703e for Rs 22,990, the BlackBerry Curve for Rs 24,990, and the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition for Rs 33,990.
To start with, the BlackBerry 8830 and 8703e handsets will be available in 16 cities and later will be expanded to other cities in phase II.
RCOM has launched BlackBerry Pearl and BlackBerry Curve on its GSM network in a phase-wise manner starting with Indore.

at last, RIM met RComm. nice to know that reliance wil be providing blackberry smartphones. i do a lot of surfing on my mobile, checking mails, etc. blackberry will sure make it easier. actually its a long time since reliance launched its first PDA the PPC6700 which was lower on the quality/usability side. availability was an issue.
