As of now, ATI Radeon
HD 5800 series GPUs and
HD 5700 series GPUs with DirectX 11 support have been launched. The new
purported HD 5970 would have two 40nm GPUS on a single PCB (printed circuit
board) just like HD 4870 X2 and HD 3870 X2. With two GPUs on the same PCB,
this card is likely to be the fastest card so far. With 13.5-inch length, this
card would certainly require a wider accommodating cabinet.

Two GPUs on same board means the CrossFireX support is
"on-board". AMD asked AlienBabelTech to pull down the performance
graphs since the card was engineering sample and hence one could hope for shorter
one. Also, the eight-pin and six-pin power connectors suggest that this card
may be a power-hungry monster.

Earlier purported at ATI Radeon HD 5870 X2, the card would be referred as HD 5970 and a step lower version HD 5850 X2 would be dubbed as HD 5950. No specifications about GPU core clock speed, memory, memory bus interface or power rating was shared since it had to be pulled down. We expect this card to hit stores in the first quarter of 2010 or show up at CES 2010.
