GPUs supplied by Nvidia to Dell, Lenovo, and Apple have resulted in major malfunctions.
According to recent reports, the defective parts problem troubling Nvidia is just the tip of the iceberg. An Inquirer article reports almost all G84 AND G86-based chips in the past were defective. To make things worse, the latest G92 and G94 series too have not been spared. The list of cards based on the G92 chip includes the likes of the 8800GT, 8800GTS, 8800GS and the umpteen mobile variants. The only G94-based card that is said to have been affected is the 9600 GT.
The official story is that a small batch of parts shipped to OEM manufacturer HP were supposedly defective and were consequently replaced. This was proved wrong as reports started pouring in that almost all OEM manufacturers like Dell, Lenovo, Apple reported issues related to the graphics module. A recent incident with Dell, which involved a laptop that would boot only to the safe mode, was not resolved and the fact that company arranged for a full exchange highlights the seriousness of the matter. The reason for the failure was again the same - the graphics module. Now, replacing an entire laptop for a GPU issue is bad business - and we definitely think Dell is not going to foot the bill. Nvidia did release a fix for HP and Dell machines - a fix that reduces the chances of the issue cropping up during the warranty period. With both Dell and HP offering extended warranty on the affected machines, the cost is bound to multiply. The extended warranty means Nvidia will have to cover laptops for a longer time.
That was about notebooks. Things look no different in the desktop scheme of things as well. Reports of desktop boards reportedly going bad now are rampant and are following the "bell curve" where failures start up as small, isolated reports and then develop very quickly into something very substantial.
To sum things up, things are certainly not looking up for Nvidia at this time. With ATi catching up on the GPU front as well, the company is in for some testing times.

The inquirer is so anti-nvidia anything they say should be taken with a grain of salt. Desktop RMAs for NVIDIA 8XXX, 9XXX, and 2XX series GPUs are below 1 percent. So if you want to make such a claim back it up with truthful data
