    PlayStation Home Delayed to 2008

PS Home is touted as a real-time interactive online world, which combines the power of the PS3 with that of networking in a near-real 3D virtual society.

An all important announcement coming out of the Tokyo Game Show 2007 is the one reportedly made by Kazuo Hirai, president and group chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment, which says that the PlayStation (PS) Home virtual world service will be delayed until next year. There's been a high level of anticipation regarding PS Home, ever since the company first announced in March that the service was to debut this fall. PS Home is touted as a real-time interactive online world, which combines the power of the PS3 with that of networking in a near-real 3D virtual society. Somewhat like Linden Lab's iconic "Second Life", which has nearly 4.5-million residents, who can create animated proxies of self called 'avatars' and interact among themselves, participate in various activities, and even trade virtual properties and services. However, unlike in "Second Life", PS Home promises video games, virtual arcades, music, movies, and a whole lot of Sony-approved media downloads. While Hirai cited the reason for the delay as the need to make PS Home completely satisfying for consumers, consumers are bound to be disappointed that the platform will now debut sometime in Spring 2008 instead of fall this year.

lolz, us sony fans have much to look forward to this winter, all xbox 360 has to look forward to is a 3rd repetition of a boring old game coughhalo3cough, basically the same all the way through? add the shiney gun here n there and woot theyre all happy, not sure why such gay things get so popular, guess retards amass to retarded things, such as star trek. anyways sony will have a lot of games coming this winter so we wont be bored and itll keep us going until home which is gonna be awesome, atleast theyre delaying it to make it better. and sony probably will have better games eventually since microsoft is focusing everything on their stupid xbox live service other than the games theyre getting. they have more developers on xbox live than actual games lol.

these things are not selling and without an online presence, they won't. The PS3 is dead. Local Wamart stores no longer stock PS3's, only the superstores. I am putting mine on Ebay today at 399 and buying a xbox 360.

Well Sony? What's your excuse for pushing this back? Most everything worth waiting for is coming out in Spring-Fall 08. Sony better get a grip or they will lose further ground in 08 to X360. Just drop that 80Gb $100 bones and you MIGHT secure enough peoples by Xmas to tread water in the new year. Poor Poor Sony. When will they get it right? I smell DAFEET. That smells like another company that bit the console dust... *COUGH* SEGA *COUGH*

Dam I can hardly wait to dress up my ken doll and wander around some shopping mall in order to do a little online. Knowing that they are up against xbox live why would Sony hatch such a ...silly idea. What adult gamer wants to play with a doll

This sort of thing will be insanely popular is it takes off. Sounds to me like a Sims meets real world.

The last I saw, Second Life was nearing 10 million residents.

In general, Sony has a bad track record with online gaming (See The Matrix Online and Star Wars Galaxies for nerfing examples). If they know what's good for them, they will pay LL an outrageous sum to license their server/world technology, and the client is already opensourced for SecondLife. This is the only way I could see it working at all and not turning into another flop because it is too delayed.
