PDC : Windows 7 Pre-beta to be Showcased

The Professional Developers Conference (PDC) starts off at Los Angeles today. It is widely expected that Windows 7, Microsoft's newest kid on the block, would be showcased during the event. Although we did have some initial impressions regarding the "too Vistaish" Windows 7 in the past as well, those were not enough to warrant a full "thrashing" of the OS even before it is out in Beta.

The following are some of the features that might see the light of the day with the Windows 7:

Device Stage: Not sure if this is just a "re-hashed" plug-and-play gimmick, but Device Stage seems to be a common application that will help consumers communicate with external devices with added ease. As expected, only "compatible devices" would be detected and supported here.

Action Center: A pit stop for all things gone wrong. You head here when the PC starts limping or if you need a helping hand with troubleshooting stuff. Can do a self-analysis of the entire system and tell you what has gone wrong.

StreamOn: Probable Windows Media Player enhancement. No further details as of now.

Animation Framework: This one's new! Ever since you got the Apple Core animation tool, Microsoft might have pondered over this one. Create customized animation right at home with this new program.

MultiTouch support: This was previewed earlier... so no surprises here!

Enhanced Bluetooth Support: And I thought the BT stack on the Vista was good enough. So Microsoft thinks there's more to be done to enhance the Bluetooth experience from what Vista offered. For those who had a torrid time with Vista and Bluetooth, here's a breather.

People will upgrade to Vista for direct x 10 and to windows 7 for direct x 11, it makes sense.

I've been using Windows since v.3.0 and XP for 5 years and I'm still getting automatic updates for XP. This tells me Microsoft sold XP before it was finished. Vaporware. Why would Windows 7 be any different? Also the idea that a new version of Windows XP will be significantly better or different requires a suspension of disbelief while writing a check for hundreds of dollars.
