Internet Industry Association's content services code seeks to empower children to make informed choices about online content.
If you are a parent whose child knows how to use a computer and browse the World Wide Web, then you're probably worried about what your child sees online.
The Internet Industry Association (IIA) of Australia has laid down a "content services code" which has been approved by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to regulate internet and mobile service content in Australia.
According to the code, "All content likely to be MA15+ or above must be assessed and classified by trained content assessors, hired by providers of online and mobile content."
The only content filter you need for your children is you the parent and a little knowledge! Anything else is never going to work. Computer in a public place in the house and keep a good eye on them. But then I just watched a cartoon character death ray another cartoon character on kids tv...

This is just another flag that says;"hey kids, click here to view naughty things"

And how is this supposedly going to be implemented ? How would a blog, forum, or any other dynamic website continously assess whether its content is likely to be MA15+ ??? Most likely operators of such websites will automatically rate themselves as MA15+ simply because its unfeasable to do anything else. If all dynamic web content is rated at MA15+, regardless of the content, then the rating no longer holds any meaning or value ! (Not that I expect any sensible ideas to come from our Government. It would be nice if the clowns writing the laws had a basic understand of the Technology they unfortunately have control over !)

This is so stupid, another kid will probably come along and somehow bypass this code like how the other kid bypassed the couple million dollar filter.

It constantly baffles me how utterly incompentent people keep coming up with this garbage. Philip said it right - nothing of this nature will work. The best that can be done is to police the online activity from home. With a little bit of effort you can easily restrict your kids online access to a select set of domains or specific websites (which you can modify as required) via the firewall and administered accounts. This will ensure that at least in your own home you are in control. Of course there is nothing to stop them accessing pretty much anything they like out in the 'big wide world'. As with all else, it all boils down to good parenting, something that is sadly lacking in today's society.
