One in Five IBM Employees is in India

Which makes India the second-largest IBM center, after the US. In 2003, IBM had only 9,000 employees in India, while in 2005, the figure shot up to 53,000.
According to IBM, the company now has 73,000 employees in the country, which is a almost a 40 percent leap from last year.
By the end of last year, IBM had 355,766 employees worldwide, and if we take the total this year to increase by the same rate as in 2006, it works out that one in five IBM workers is in India.
Which makes India the second-largest IBM center, after the US. In 2003, IBM had only 9,000 employees in India, while in 2005, the figure shot up to 53,000.
The possibility being that like most other information technology (IT) multinationals (MNC), IBM too started expanding in India to cash-in on the lower labor costs even in case of highly skilled workers.
Apart from India, the company is looking at key developing markets, including Brazil, Russia, and China.
IBM has increased its workforce in India, Brazil, Russia, and China to about 100,000 this year.
