A rumor doing the rounds of the market is that Nvidia is developing a digital content distribution platform somewhat similar to Steam, Direct2Drive and Apple's iTunes. Nvidia's nZone has been involved in digital content distribution as well as information sharing about the upcoming game titles.

TG Daily mentioned that Nvidia is developing a digital content distribution platform, which will focus entirely on the consumer model. It's possible that it might be an iTunes for games and Nvidia's graphics card. However, Nvidia's concern would be to create a user-friendly DRM. Moreover, the games distributed through this platform will have latest hardware driver incorporated instead of using a separate CD-DVD with hardware.

In an imaginary scenario, the digital content distribution platform partners will sell graphics cards along with a universal key that could be used with several games through that channel. Well this scenario sounds quite a possibility when Nvidia will have majority graphics card market share on which AMD is already thriving.

Nvidia responded to the news about digital content distribution platform calling it mere market speculation and mentioned that they'll continue to distribute digital content through nZone.

Indian gamers would certainly be pleased if Nvidia was actually working on a digital content platform, as they would get a master key to several games and download the digital content. To a certain extent, this move could impact game piracy in the long run.
