Nvidia has announced its plans to roll out new platform based on Tegra 600 series system on chip processors for low-cost mobile internet devices at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). Nvidia boasts about Tegra chip's capabilities that offer MIDs longer battery life and HD video playback.
Nvidia plans to use Android and Windows CE for powering a low-cost $99 (Rs. 4,800 approx.) mobile internet device. Also, its new Nvidia Tegra 600 series system-on-chip based platform will be used for powering these low cost MIDs. For broadband connectivity, the company has partnered with ST-Ericsson to provide 3G communication to the MID platform.
Nvidia is boasting about the long lasting battery life and claims that Tegra-platform based devices can go on 'till days without a recharge'. Also, these Tegra-based MIDs would be capable of 720p and 1080p HD video content playback. Tegra-powered MID will have full WiFi and 3G support for using myriad of Web 2.0 apps.
Nvidia's Tegra-based platform will bring a low cost MID capable of playing HD content and would be capable of wireless connectivity for a longer duration - always connected HD MID.
Basically, gadget makers can directly take Nvidia's Tegra 600 series SoC based platform and come out with new MIDs with rich multimedia applications.
