Which means: GSM customers of BSNL will be able to watch as many as 12 television channels on their mobile handsets.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced its 'TV in mobile handset' service in some parts of the country.
Which means: GSM customers of BSNL will be able to watch as many as 12 television channels on their mobile handsets. These include: NDTV, Aaj Tak, Times Now, CNBC, ETV, TV9, Zoom, and Bindaas. By the year end, a total of 32 channels is expected to be brought under the 'TV in mobile handset' net.
Currently, the service is available on select Nokia handsets; to be extended later to Sony Ericssson and Motorola handsets.
Apalya Technologies, whom BSNL has entered into a partnership with, will provide content (TV signals) made available on BSNL GSM handsets.
To view TV content on their handsets, BSNL GSM customers will have to visit mimobi.tv via their phones.
For the next 30 days, the service is free-of-charge, and is available (presently) in the Eastern and North Eastern regions of India.

dear yash, do u have any news of this service NOT being launched in b'lore AT ALL?? yes, they cud ve launched simultaneously, or one after the other, and since BSNL has larger customer database in the eastern part, hence the decision, which i hope, u ll realize makes more business sense :) but by no means can u call any part of the country as "junkyard," can u yash???

BSNL shud emphasise on basic signal service first den about any over services. Sorry these things will not cater you a huge number of customers.

They should first improve the basic service like good signals and hit rate.Further this will pave wayfor more in discipline among the people which is now monopolised by Cricket.

when I get a call (in my bsnl no) i have to run from one room to another, asking the caller if they can hear me....made numerous complaints to bsnl, the technical person (from bsnl) was very prompt to come to my apartment (in T. Nagar heart of Chennai), after looking at his signal meter he said, I was staying in an apartment which has 6 bsnl signal towers surrounding it??but unfortunately I was in the outer circle (range) of all these towers and that?s the reason why the call gets cut and the caller could not hear me. He said Sorry there is only one solution???and that is to put a signal booster in my apartment but the bsnl signal booster costs Rs. 65,000/- and if they feel it is economically feasible for them they will install one, or the other option is that I shift my house to a new location where bsnl signals are strong. TV on Phone???? I can?t even speak on my cell phone!

Service via GPRS or EDGE??? I doubt BSNL has very small or NO EDGE coverage... Even Airtel has EDGE coverage in few BIG cities only and rest are just GPRS only...

I don't get it. Even in many tier 2 cities, BSNL network is very weak, people can't even get enough signal to talk, I wonder how video streaming will work!

Does this mean the trial run in Delhi is a success? Well, I called several people/engineers/PAs etc in Doordarshan for this info....no one has even heard about this MobileTV it seems.... Anyway...why Nort eastern and Eastern states?? Any specific reason? Many people watch such stuff in Southers states as well....in fact Bangalore/Mumbai or Hyderabad would be better options for trial relays...

keep in mind that, BSNL doesn't operate in mumbai and delhi circle's, only MTNL in these areas. so do not expect service in delhi. BUT i think this is good INITIATIVE from BSNL, soon other has to follow TV on mobile service
