All those who have ever tried booking gas cylinders for their homes will vouch for how difficult a task it is to accomplish in this great big city.

But Reliance Communications claims it might just have discovered a way to circumvent all those hours spent at gas booking premises, not to mention the endless calls to gas agencies...

Reliance Mobile World (R World) has introduced gas booking via mobile phone for the benefit of its 2.6 crore odd customers. In effect, gas booking becomes the latest to join a string of mass market utilities provided by the company, including Railways and Airline bookings, India Speed Post tracking, bill payment, and mobile banking.

For starters, all Hindustan Petroleum (HP) gas customers using R World and SMS will be able to deploy options, including gas bookings, queries on on-mobile phones, real-time complaint registrations, et al. And, the service has been kicked-off in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, wherein Reliance Communications and HP have close to 20 lakh and 12 lakh customers respectively.

To avail the service, subscribers need to click on Reliance Mobile World>MoreServices>TravelNShop along with their distributor codes and consumer codes, for a one-time registration.

After this, booking a gas cylinder is just a click away. Customers are given a booking number, a date, and a time. The service also addresses issues such as leakage, non-delivery, and mechanical complaints, again - at the click of a button.

The same features are offered on SMS, wherein customers need to SMS HP to 2626 in order to register. For gas booking, customers need to SMS HP .

For redressal of complaints regarding non-delivery, customers need to SMS HP to 2626. Each request through SMS and R World is chargeable at Rs 3.

Commenting on the service, Mahesh Prasad, president applications services group, Reliance Communications, said, "This service, launched for HP customers now, will be extended to Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum customers in the next 30 days. It is a constant endeavor at Reliance Communications to expand our mobile application suite, and this initiative is a step forward in providing an easy-to-use 'anytime, anywhere' B2C mobile application for the masses."
