Nokia is introducing a network solution in order to help mobile operators better manage their data traffic.

The company said that the Nokia Peer-to-peer Traffic Control, as the solution is called, lets operators keep in check the eating-up of network resources by bandwidth hungry applications such as file sharing and Voice over IP telephony, thus giving operators the tools to maintain tighter control over their networks.

Nokia also claims that Peer-to-peer Traffic Control is the industry's first integrated solution to allow mobile operators to profitably manage bandwidth available for peer-to-peer (P2P) traffic, thus balancing the allocation of network resources.

Talking about the solution, Roberto Loiola, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Networks at Nokia, said, "With the explosion of affordable high-speed mobile data access, operators are now being challenged to make the best possible use of their networks, especially when peer-to-peer applications increase their traffic load and compete with their own services."

"The Nokia Peer-to-peer Traffic Control solution now gives operators the means to analyze and manage such traffic. It allows them to apply their business models by prioritizing the traffic of preferred services and partners, maximize their return on network investment, and avoid becoming mere bit pipes for other content providers," Loiola said.

The Nokia Peer-to-peer Traffic Control solution boosts the service, the subscriber, and the access awareness capabilities of the Nokia Flexi Intelligent Service Node (ISN) to identify data traffic according to the type of service.

While Nokia will be demonstrating the Peer-to-peer Traffic Control solution at Nokia World that takes place in Amsterdam on November 29 and 30, the solution will be commercially available during the first half of 2007.

So .. this means Nokia has found a way to mask the connections and give lower speeds to bandwidth hungy applications, that means mobile internet users will not be able to use their internet to the full potential. DUHH !!!! Down with Nokia
