Nokia Series 60 Get BlackBerry Support Again

Nokia and RIM are co-operating to bring the service back to the newer range of E-Series devices

Recent reports indicate that RIM is prepping for the much sought-after BlackBerry support for Nokia Series 60 handsets.

This might sound strange, but earlier Nokia's E-Series devices did support BlackBerry services until mid 2008. If you have been a keen follower of E-Series related news, you might recall that Nokia had back in July announced that it was discontinuing support for the BlackBerry service on most of its Series 60 based smartphones.

Nokia's reversal of its decision has as expected taken most people by surprise. The plans were revealed by a senior official from Nokia. Tom Furlong, head of Nokia Messaging, in a recent Reuters interview said that RIM is working on readying support for their service on certain Nokia devices. The interesting fact to note is that Nokia and RIM are co-operating to bring the service back to the newer range of E-Series devices.

Nokia recently launched its Ovi service, an email service directed at first time users, in an attempt to concentrate on the relatively untapped mainstream consumer e-mail market. RIM, on the other hand, dominates the corporate mobile e-mail sector.

It seems good times are back for BlackBerry addicts hooked to the Nokia E-Series!
