China Mobile to launch the 3G handset by 2009-end
Nokia on Wednesday announced that it is planning to churn out TD-SCDMA based handsets for the Chinese market. The first of these is slated to be based on the series 60 platform and will be out before the end of 2009.
The Chinese are adopting the TD-SCDMA way to go 3G and is the only country which will be implementing this standard for third-generation services. China's dominant mobile operator China Mobile has announced that it plans to launch the upcoming Nokia handset. China Mobile happens to be the world's largest mobile operator in terms of the number of subscribers.
"Our goal is to not only develop TD-SCDMA products that can deliver outstanding user experiences to consumers, but also to work with operators, chipset providers, developers and all parties along the value chain to support the creation of a vibrant TD-SCDMA ecosystem in China," Nokia said in a statement.
Nokia will be competing against local and Korean brands once the Chinese 3G services are up and running. Currently, the TD-SCDMA forum lists almost 100 handsets that are available for TD-SCDMA.
