Nokia has introduced seven new handsets and two new services for the emerging markets. To tap new opportunities, Nokia introduced these new handsets along with new services that focus on email, agricultural information and education based on consumer feedback. The suite of Internet services will be made available in early 2009. Along with this release, Nokia has also dropped bomb by cutting 600 jobs across marketing and sales departments and couple of relocations.

The new Nokia handsets introduced are Nokia 1202, 1661, 2320, 2323, 2330, 5130 XpressMusic and 7100 Supernova. These new affordable handsets will range from 25 Euros (Rs. 1500 approx) to 90 Euros (Rs. 5500 approx). Nokia 1202 and 1661 are claimed to be their lowest cost mobiles that will offer flashlight, extended battery life and multiple phone books. Nokia 1661, a color handset, offers FM radio and larger color screen. Both 1202 and 1661 will be ship during second quarter of 2009 at an estimated price point of 25 Euros (Rs. 1540) and 30 Euros (Rs. 1845) respectively.



The entry level devices supporting Mail on Ovi and Nokia Life Tools are Nokia 2320 classic, 2323 classic and Nokia 2330 classic. Amongst these, Nokia 2323 features FM Radio with recording option and built-in web browser while 2330 has integrated camera. The 2320 classic, 2323 classic and 2330 classic are expected to ship during 2009's second quarter at estimated price of 40 Euros (Rs. 2460) while 2330 will be priced at 50 Euros (Rs. 3075).

Nokia 5130 XpressMusic features dedicated music buttons, FM radio, 3.5 mm jack for headphones, 2 megapixel camera and support for Share on Ovi and Mail on Ovi services. Expected in the first quarter of 2009, the 5130 XpressMusic will be priced at 90 Euros (Rs. 5535). And finally the stylish 7100 Supernova features large color screen, FM Radio, 1.3 megapixel camera, and support for Share on Ovi and Mail on Ovi services. Nokia 7100 is expected ship by the end of this year at estimated price of 75 Euros (Rs. 4610 approx). All INR prices have been converted for estimated value and these will NOT be their Indian retail price.

Nokia has also announced introduction of two new services - Mail on Ovi and Nokia Life Tools. Mail on Ovi is enabled on Nokia's Symbian 40 series based phones will offer easy to setup and use email access. Nokia Life Tools that aims at providing agricultural information and education knowledge is targeted at the rural and small town sections in the emerging markets.
