Nintendo Wii #1 in the U.S.; 1 million MGS4 sold

June 2008 NPD puts Nintendo Wii ahead of the Xbox 360 in the US. MGS4 sells nearly a million
The NPD Group is a retail-tracker for games in the U.S. According to figures released by the NPD for the month of June 2008, the Nintendo Wii is now the top-selling console in the U.S., beating the Xbox 360 which had a one year lead in the market. June's figures also revealed that the latest in the Metal Gear series -- Metal Gear Solid 4: Gun of the Patriots (MGS4) sold nearly 1 million copies, including bundle sales of PlayStation 3 and MGS4.
The top 10 software numbers for June 2008 were as follows, note that all numbers are in the thousands:

06. 360 BATTLEFIELD: BAD COMPANY ELECTRONIC ARTS 346.8K
07. WII MARIO KART W/WHEEL NINTENDO OF AMERICA 322.4K
08. WII LEGO INDIANA JONES: THE ORIGINAL ADVENTURE LUCASARTS 294.5K
09. NDS LEGO INDIANA JONES: THE ORIGINAL ADVENTURE LUCASARTS 267.8K
10. PS2 LEGO INDIANA JONES: THE ORIGINAL ADVENTURE LUCASARTS 260.3K
**These numbers do not include bundle sales; which when added bring the total MGS4 sales to nearly a million
According to NPD Industry Analyst Anita Frazier, "The Wii has taken the lead in total sales of current generation console hardware at 10.9 million units sold at retail life-to-date in the U.S."
The Wii sold 666.7K units in June 2008, compared to 405.5K for the PS3 and 219.8K for the Xbox 360. The Nintendo DS sold 783K units for the month, while the PSP mustered sales of 337.4K. PS3 unit sales were the highest of any month outside of that recorded during previous November/December holiday timeframes", she added. Said Frazier, "As expected, Metal Gear Solid 4 realized significant retail sales and drove PS3 hardware acquisition. While the attached media report does not include units bundled with hardware, if included MGS4 sold-through nearly 1 million units."
These June numbers puts the Nintendo Wii in a leadership position in both the U.S. and Japan; European numbers are too fractured to make a call on. However, the Wii also leads in the U.K. -- Europe's largest market.

That is not a fact, that is your biased opinion. The Wii is purely a game console. It's more of a game console than either of the others. It can play fun new games and classic old games. You're just whining because the Wii is beating your favorite blu-ray player.

man this is insane<hats off to Nintendo for making something that everyone can buy but the fact is Nintendo is not a game console its a lifestyle product meant for family get together , the real daddy of consoles will definitely always be play station and there no denying the fact
