Nikon's New D40 DSLR Camera

Nikon has unveiled its D40, an all-new entry-level digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera designed to offer consumers the ability to get better pictures.
Nikon has unveiled its D40, an all-new entry-level digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera designed to offer consumers the ability to get higher quality and impressive looking pictures.
The company says that the D40 camera, which is powered by a Nikon DX Format CCD image sensor and a Nikon Image Processing Engine, has a 3X Zoom-Nikkor lens, and features 6.1-megapixel effective resolution.
Equipped with a metal Nikon F-mount, the D40 will be fully compatible with AF-S and AF-I Nikkor lenses, besides offering 3D Colour Matrix Metering II and a 420-pixel sensor.
The camera touts a 2.5-inch LCD screen that displays menu options, pictures in playback mode, and other content. It can shoot 2.5 pictures per second non-stop for up to 100 shots, and record images to a Secure Digital (SD) flash memory card.
The D40 also incorporates Nikon's Multi-CAM530 auto-focus module and a 3-area auto-focus. The refined algorithms that control lens auto-focus are inherited from Nikon's D200 and D80 DSLRs. And for more advanced creative control, the D40 offers Program Auto, Shutter-Priority Auto, Aperture-Priority Auto, and Manual modes. A Retouch menu offers in-camera image editing features, including D-Lighting, Red-eye Correction, and Image Trim.
The camera has a Built-in Flash that employs Nikon's I-TTL flash control, which promises greater precision in flash exposure evaluation and better automatic flash balance. For flash photography of subjects at greater distances, a new, light, and ultra-compact SB-400 Speedlight is available too.
The D40 camera boasts built-in eight preset shooting modes, including a new Flash Off mode that shuts off the camera's flash and boosts its ISO, which will be useful for places where flash photography is not allowed.
Edward Fasano, General Manager of Marketing, SLR System Products at Nikon, said that their customers constantly tell them that they wish Nikon digital SLR cameras are smaller, lighter, and easier to use. With the introduction of the D40, Nikon's engineers have surpassed all expectations in meeting this challenge.
Fasano added that the D40 packs-in an incredible range of features and technologies, but even those using a digital SLR camera for the first time will be thrilled with beautiful pictures with vibrant colors, stunning sharpness, and outstanding detail. And these same customers will be amazed at just how easy it is to take truly better pictures with the new Nikon D40.
Meanwhile, the D40 DSLR camera would cost $599.95 (Rs.27,000 approx.) and is expected to hit the stores in December this year.

you can get it in any Whizz show room, in Forum, Garuda and where else they are there,costs 41k there and is available in the grey for 22.5k

The cost is wrong here Rs 27,000. Its around Rs 40,000 here in India. $600 is in US.
