New iPhone in the Making?

Recently, Apple released firmware update 2.2.1 for iPhone and iPod Touch users. In this new firmware, MacRumors discovered impressions of evidential facts that lead to a possibility of new iPhone model in the making.
Theoretically, Apple uses specific numbering scheme in firmware for iPhone models. The first generation iPhone 2G has an "iPhone 1,1" label, while the current iPhone 3G has an "iPhone 1,2" label. The change in number directly reflects the change in functionality and not merely a storage increase.
Likewise, the new second generation iPod Touch has an "iPod 2,1" label as opposed to the "iPod 1,1" used in the first iPod Touch. The second generation iPod Touch has faster processor than iPhone 3G.
At the MacWorld, rumors about multi-core GPU equipped iPhone had buzzed the developers. These Multi-core GPUs are likely to come from Imagination Technologies since Apple has showed interest in buying stake of about 3.6 percent in it.
In a reported interview, senior vice president (marketing) Phil Schiller talked about the product refreshment cycles and mentioned that iPhone gets refreshment in June every year.
Dumping all the rumours revolving around iPhone Nano or 64GB iPhone, Apple might be working on something big for its next model. Apple needs to be watchful since Palm's recent pet Pre is getting all the attention.
