New Sony HDV Camcorder Surfaces

Sony India has launched its HDR-HC1, which according to the company, qualifies as the world's smallest HDV Camcorder.

Sony India has announced the launch of its HDR-HC1, which according to the company, qualifies as the world's smallest High Definition Video (HDV) Camcorder.

Earlier, Sony Electronics had launched their HD Consumer Camcorder in May 2005, touting it as the world's smallest and lightest HD consumer camcorder.

The HDR-HC1 along with an attached NP-FM50 battery, weighs approximately 780 grams and comes-in handy to videographers who are on the move. Sony's new HDV Camcorder incorporates an enhanced imaging processor and a 1/3-inch, primary colour, 3.0 mega pixels, CMOS sensor which makes for faster image processing and high-definition picture quality.

The HDR-HC1 features a high-precision, Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens, which reduces ghosting and image flaring even under low light conditions. Other facets include; a 4-capsule microphone block and a newly designed circuit which reduce noise and ensure high sound quality, as also an advanced Capture function which enables users to capture high quality, 1.2 mega pixel, still images while recording movies.

The HDR-HC1 has a slew of other features such as; a Down Conversion function which automatically converts HD movies into SD images for easy viewing, a Cinematic mode which allows videos recorded in HDV to be viewed on HD-compatible televisions and an array of manual controls like spot focus, zoom ring, 10X optical zoom, 120X digital zoom etc.

The HDR-HC1 is priced at around Rs.1,09,900 and is available at select Sony and Sony World outlets across the country.

Hi people, Wanted to buy a camcorder within 30k-40k and obviously wanted bang for the buck. What would you suggest. yes I have seen HC42E and was impressed but when I saw reviews, they say that HC42 is not much different from its 40 and 32 predecessor except for some improvements in still imaging which anyway I am not expecting much. Also in case my name misleads you, I am a guy

by SRINIVASAN.SP, MADURAI, on Aug 11, 2005 11:13 AM, Report abuse   Reply

Very Expensive cant get my hands on these. I think if you are talking about lens then Canon is the way to go.

by Xeon, Nagpur, on Aug 04, 2005 12:41 AM, Report abuse   Reply

canon is the way to go to sleep. comapre the best models of sony and canon. you will get the difference.

by Javed, mumbai, on Aug 04, 2005 02:38 AM, Report abuse

Of course. You're comparing Canon to Sony. Pooh. I've seen the quality of Canon. It sucks, along with the lens. Moreover, Sony uses the Carl Zeiss standard of lenses, which is the best lens available worldwide (check any encyclopaedia). Grow up, Xeon.

by Nivin, Cochin, on Aug 08, 2005 09:08 AM, Report abuse

whats the big deal about these carl zeiss lenses??

by absar, mumbai, on Aug 04, 2005 02:54 PM, Report abuse   Reply

You don't know who Carl Zeiss is? He was a famous lensmaker who got his name for the quality of the lenses he made. He died out, but his Carl Zeiss standard still remains. Sony Handycams buid their lenses using this standard and so they can be claimed to be the best lenses in the world. Some standards of Carl Zeiss lenses include Vario Sonnar, Vario Tessar, etc. Look into any encyclopaedia and you'll find Carl Zeiss there.

But if you have that kinda money, simply get it from US for a kewl $1999 equivalent to Rs. 88000. Check this official price at . Visit the circuitcity or some best deal store and get another Rs. 10000 off on this. Thus you save a straight 30K on the Indian prices. With the money saved, finance your trip to US. p.s. - there's now no customs duty for personal camcorders
