NVIDIA, Opera to Offer a Richer Mobile Experience

The Opera 9.5 browser joins the Tegra platform to provide a desktop-like browsing experience to mobile devices
Opera has joined the NVIDIA Tegra platform as a provider of a richer Internet experience to mobile devices.
The Tegra is NVIDIA's (potential) answer to Intel's and ARM's system-on-a-chip solutions. The platform consists of the Tegra APX 2500, Tegra 600, and Tegra 650 processors -- which are comprised of an ARM11 CPU core, an NVDIA GPU, and DDR166 memory controller. The Tegra platform is aimed at mobile devices such as phones and MIDs.
With Opera 9.5 now part of the Tegra platform offering, NVIDIA claims to offer a richer browsing experience via GPU acceleration:
1. The platform will offer a desktop-level experience with hardware-accelerated rich media, image and in-page video playback
2. GPU acceleration will deliver a smooth panning and zooming browsing experience. This might lead to reduced battery consumption
3. Hardware-accelerated 3D touch browsing experience. This will be offered at an interface level to those interested in adopting the Tegra platform: Opera integration into NVIDIA's OpenKODE-based composition framework; powered by OpenGL ES 2.0
Tegra products are expected to reach the hands of consumers sometime in 2009.
