Music preloaded: New SanDisk 'slotMusic' cards

Here's some music to your ears: SanDisk has joined hands with four music labels -- Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, and EMI to offer an all new 'slotMusic' MicroSD flash cards. The 1GB 'slotMusic' MicroSD cards will be have 320kbps pre-loaded DRM-free MP3 files. Furthermore, entire albums will be made available and sold on the 'slotMusic' cards later this year.
If music be the food for the soul, the slotMusic cards are meant to be like read-to-eat food. Simply insert them in supported multimedia phones, portable music players or laptops (they need to support microSD memory card), and play your favourite music! No transfer or loading hassles. No DRM or password issues.
Along with music files, interactive content such as videos, artist interviews, album art, and other goodies around an artist or music label can be fed in the 1GB card. These microSD format cards will have a USB cover for better connectivity over USB interface via Windows, Linux and Mac based-computing systems. For more information visit the slotMusic website.
With a raging digital music download market, the sales of physical products such as CDs is waning. With slotMusic the music labels aim to regain lost grounds. For SanDisk, the product line might help them tighten their grip in the flash memory market; since digital music is quite the hot commodity in the digital entertainment industry.
For us consumers, this is a welcome step. We hope that this move makes way to better offers such as High Definition movies being bundled on memory cards. A concerted effort on that end will surely bring in better compression methods and a good HD rip on an easy to use and get media -- no worrying over price of Blu-ray drives, or availibility of Blu-ray movies, for that matter -- is surely a welcome scenario for us.
