Mumbai to Host Techshare

Come November 4 and Mumbai is all set to host Techshare India 2008 - a technology event that aims to promote accessibility and assistive technology for the disabled. Techshare, which happens to be Europe's biggest event of its kind, will be held in the premises of the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped at Bandra.
Earlier this year, in February, an edition of the same event concluded at New Delhi.
Techshare aims to highlight the grossly overlooked facet of accessibility standards and accessibility laws for the disabled all over the world. India, which has a sizable amount of people with disabilities, too fares very poorly when it comes to accessibility laws and facilities for the disabled.
Techshare India 2008 will also have a showcase gallery where various assistive technologies available today will be demoed. Apart from that, the role of technology in the lives of people with some form of disability will be explained. There will also be an "experience zone" where visitors would be able to get a first hand feel of what it is like to have a disability.
Techshare is being promoted by the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB), UK and BarrierBreak Technolgies, a firm that specializes in providing solutions in the field of accessibility for people with disabilities. More information on the event is available on the Techshare website.
