Mobile Phones Kill?

Are mobile phones hazardous to our health? The debate continues...
Powerwatch -- an independent non-profit organization -- has published a report "Mobile Phones and Health - 15 Years of Research".
The organization claims to have examined links between electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and health risks for 20 years and has come to a conclusion that the mobile phones could increase the chances of both malignant and benign brain tumors. According to the study, "people who had used a mobile phone for 10 years or more were twice as likely to develop a malignant tumor on the side of the brain where they hold the handset."
Recently, Dr Vini Khurana -- a neurosurgeon at Canberra Hospital, Australia -- had also concluded in his study that the mobile phones will surpass asbestos and smoking as a leading danger to public health, causing brain tumors.
Though, the results may shock anyone but the fact is that this debate has been going on for few years. In the past also studies have liked the mobile phones with health hazard. A 2005 report by UK-based National Radiological Protection Board had cautioned mobile phone users about the potential adverse health hazards.
Skeptics have raised doubts over the authenticity of the studies, Professor Patricia McKinney, epidemiologist at the University of Leeds, said the data was misleading. "A major UK study is misquoted as finding a statistically significant risk of brain tumors associated with heavy use of mobile phones, which it definitely did not... this biased appraisal of the science should be viewed cautiously by the general public," she said.
