M-Education will offer contemporary content and do away with the need to visit physical institutes, thus bridging the physical gap using CDMA technology
Tata Teleservices plans to start a new initiative, Mobile Education (M-Education), an attempt to aid distance learning and support learning in rural communities and for the physically challenged.
Towards the promotion of education in the remotest corners of the nation, the company has partnered with SNDT Women's University, ATOM Tech (Any Transaction on Mobile), and Indian PCO Teleservices (IPTL).
In this alliance, SNDT University will develop and manage content, Tata Indicom on its service channels will be the carrier, ATOM will provide the intermediary interfaces and IPTL will look after service distribution and dissemination system.
Under this model, the mobile phone transforms itself from a mere device that allows users access to voice and text messaging the one that proffers accredited educational content and takes mock tests on the move, regardless of geographies or physical constraints.
The M-Education will offer contemporary content to students and do away with the need to visit physical schools and colleges, thus bridging the physical distances using CDMA technology.
Commenting on the initiative C N Nagakumar, CHRO, Tata Teleservices, said "We embarked upon the journey couple of months ago for the larger education of our population. The twin objectives we could achieve with this service are a paradigm shift from the paper format to mobile format and impact both women and education."
Initially, the M-Education service will be available in Hindi and English language. However, the alliance plans to make the service available in other regional languages later.

An excellent innovative approach to reach far places with education/learning. Although approach has inherent limitations, but it will be a milestone in development. It will be more fruitful if education is provided in local languages also. Dr Diwakar Tejaswi Consultant Physician & Medical Director International Health Organization

Let us extend the initiative on education to office like work like word processing, archiving, search, accounting. One candidate for partnership with the Tatas would be eDeskOnline which allows all of these along with accounting.

Its a nice gesture but my concerns are same as that of first comments..its definitely difficult to read from a mobile device and charging the mobile phones could be one more issue

This technology will be great but I stongly think that keeping cell phone for a long hours may be hazardus and reading text from the small screen again will be hazardus. This techonology will be good for the phones having speaker and develop a phone having a screen(means palmtop), because u r introducing this techonology to remote areas and to physicaly handicap.

it's a very good idea from tata teleservices, but any remote area has their own problem,no sufficient eletricity to charge the hand set or any other device.it will be good for tehsil places.i am in the service ,who provide cdma based network.i know the problems are their, but u can put more effort to replace battery or bty charger in the sufficient quantity.then it will be easier
