Personal computer buyers can now upgrade to the Vista operating system (OS), as Microsoft Corp has reportedly announced the Vista upgrading coupon program.

Personal computer buyers can now upgrade to the Vista operating system (OS), as Microsoft Corp has reportedly announced the Vista upgrading coupon program wherein customers buying PCs will get a Vista upgrade coupon for free or at a discounted rate.

Under the program, customers buying PCs between October 26 and March 15, 2007, with pre-installed Windows XP OS, will be able to upgrade to Vista OS, once it's made available to the public. Vista is scheduled to debut early next year.

Similarly, the company has also come up with an upgrade plan for the recently previewed Microsoft Office 2007. Consumers buying PCs will now be able to upgrade to Office 2007, which is also due early next year.

The upgrading program is being supported by some of the popular PC manufacturers, including Hewlett Packard, Dell, and Sony. However, different companies will be offering different upgrades.

According to Microsoft, the upgrade program is scheduled to start today for the Vista OS and Office 2007 software suite. The program is an effort by the company to avoid a drop in PC sales during the holidays.

The Vista OS upgrade program is valid till March 15, 2007.

There are three types of software products: OEM, Upgrade and Retail. Existing owners of genuine XP can use the upgrade versions. DO NOT confuse this with the upgrade coupons which is only for those customers who purchase computers from HP, Dell etc. MS was supposed to ship Vista to these companies before holiday season. Failing to do so, it is offering these coupons.

Microsoft better extend this offer to all existing Genuine Windows XP users. Instead of spending a lot in antipiracy campaigns, software can be made affordable by reasonable pricing and policies. Such policy will sure make a positive impact. Similar is the case of upgrading to new OS, instead of just orphaning an OS and eventually even stopping the support (as happened with XP-SP1 & 98xx) Microsoft can offer a cheap upgrade to new OS so that all genuine software users will always be with latest software and in one way help in stopping the security and piracy menace. Normal computer users can not be expected to spend thousands every now and then or whenever a new software is released. Indirectly the computer users are compelled to spend thousands coz existing software are eventually left with no support but with lot of security issues. The users can either stayback with their existing software with all sort of security holes and bugs with no support or purchase once again another so-called new OS or better move to open source software or just let his PC have a natural death and then lead a peaceful life without a PC.
