Microsoft has announced that their new operating system, Windows Vista, will be released on November 30 this year, at an event in New York City.
The company said that Windows Vista would, however, be available only to businesses at first. The consumer version would be available to the mainstream public early next year, the release date for which is rumored to be January 30, 2007.
But, the November release of Windows Vista would be the first new release of a Windows operating system since 2001. It has been dubbed a world-wide release, and will also include the launch of the new Office 2007 and the Exchange Server 2007 software.
The Exchange Server 2007 launch will give businesses access to Microsoft s latest e-mail server and e-mail client, Outlook 2007.
Microsoft had previously planned to release Windows Vista and Office 2007 to both business and retail customers by the end of 2006. But, in March, the company said it would delay the retail launches, after determining that it was not possible to meet the schedule required by some PC manufacturers and others in the industry.
Even though Windows Vista and Office 2007 will be available to business customers later this month, many business customers have said likely they will not upgrade to Vista right away, but that they will hold off until such a time that they do hardware upgrades, or are able to justify the cost of the new operating system. Meanwhile, Microsoft is hoping customers will deploy Windows Vista and Office 2007 together.
I personally was a beta tester for all known versions of longhorn/vista. First of all, there are STILL a few issues that I VERY strongly do not like and they just haven't fixed. Also, having 10 versions of vista is completely BS. Five 32bit versions and many more x64 versions to deal with isn?t the best way to do this. When I upgrade to vista, I am NOT PAYING for my windows CD-key to be cancelled. Bla blab la. I want a full version that is cheap. Which, that is what college is for. :-D to get a cheap OS for 10-20 bucks is better than 250 dollars.
Anyway, this upgrade is not for everyone. I do not recommend that people upgrade their systems to vista. However, I will tell you customers to build a new system WITH NEW FiUiCiKING TECHNOLOGY with vista installed on it. Meaning, it needs to have at least 1GB of ram on it, 256mb of video ram. Bla blab la. Personally, I would recommend 2GBs.
after 20 hours of super frustration with a new XP installation - going through 5 ''Techs'' in India, I'm canceling installation, buying a MAC and selling all my MSFT stock!
Microsoft will be realesing many versions of Vista...one home for home users which will have basic features and entertainment and gaming features then business which will be purely for office work plus multimedia capabilities and then a media centre sort of edition with the media handling capabilities. And then the Premium with all the features. These different editions don't mean that a business version wouldn't run games but it means that it is particularly designed to suit all that. You can still play hardcore games on any of these versions. However the big difference is Price-Home-$175,Business-$200,Media centre-$225,Premium-$250.These are approximate and no guarantee that these will not fall and surely our piracy gods will do something.I already have a Beta Version of the Vista but can't run it as my RAM is still a sloppy-256. Ciao
Dear Satya, minimum requirement should be in Desktop Pentium D processor and Core Duo and in Laptop Core duo processor and RAM should be minimum 256, thnx if u have any reuqirement pls let us know since v hv a branch in AHM too
Nice move by microsoft to launch new OS. But i can tell u in OS Window 2000 is one of the best OS what i hv seen to far since we are in IT solution, it is purely secure
My company is currently in the process of upgrading all our workstations (+10000) to XP, so I estimate that the Vista rollout will be in about half a decade...
At home, I've switched to Mac - for good.
