Microsoft IE8 in Private Beta Testing

Microsoft IE8 in Private Beta Testing

Techtree News Staff, Feb 26, 2008 1426 hrs IST

Microsoft has said they will soon be making their Beta available to the general public for testing and downloads.

Microsoft has sent out invitations to select enthusiasts for the first private Beta testing of their upcoming Internet Explorer (IE) 8.

About two weeks back, Mozilla had launched Beta 3 of their Firefox version 3. Seems Microsoft has been under some pressure to come up with their new version as well.

Incidentally, though IE continues to be the most widely-used browser, Firefox has been a strong competitor and has managed to grab a considerable percentage of the market in a comparatively short span of time.

In 2006, both companies had launched new versions of their respective browsers at around the same time. However, users ended up using Firefox 2 more as compared to IE7.

Coming back to the invitations sent out by Microsoft to select Beta testers, they've said they will soon be making their Beta available to the general public for testing and downloads.

Meanwhile, Beta testers can submit feedback, post bug reports, download software answer surveys on product quality, as well as vote on top bugs filed by others for the technical Beta program.

Reportedly, Microsoft had earlier claimed that IE8 would pass the Acid 2 compatibility test, and would include the controversial version tag to properly render Web sites that have been coded to work around the shortcomings or outright errors in IE6.

Microsoft hasn't released any further information on the new features and the final release date of IE8. The company plans to show the new version at the Mix 08 conference to be held in March in Las Vegas.

Some of the products runs on IE only so it is kept on pc. Otherwise I will suggest that Opera is the best and Firfox is still sluggishhh. Takes long time to load files, sites. It can not be the alternative to Opera anyway. Use Opera and you will find it so simple and fast and you can keep open as many tabs open and whenever you will open Opear you will be at that point again without mistake and will not use your inernet connection for that. Even you go back to the last page it nearly jumps to it. Try it and then you will find the difference. I am using it from the date it was available for browsing.

IE 7 had too many problems. Many of my applications were not running after installing IE7. I dumped it for Firefox and I have no complaints. I have heard of similar problem about IE7 from many people. Hardly anybody has adopted IE7 and MS is coming out with IE8....

No Brother, Opera Rulez... The features which firefox and IE boast of were already there in opera from version 7, that was 3 years back i guess... it is much faster with loads of customizations... I use opera for everything except online card trancastions which only IE handles properly...firefox and opera strict no no for online transactions. try opera for a few days and u will know.. don't follow the crowd... i think as soon as a product increases in popularity it loses its charm...so in a way it is good less people are using opera... but i think i'll give firefox a try one of these days..
