Microsoft Debuts LifeCam Series

Marking its foray into Web cams, Microsoft has unveiled a new line of Web cams that promise to simplify the video communi-cations experience.
Marking its foray into Web cams, Microsoft has unveiled an innovative new line of Web cams that the company says, will dramatically simplify the video communications experience to let people see, hear, and share life's experiences in an extraordinary way.
Named as LifeCams, the LifeCam VX-6000 and the LifeCam VX-3000, according to Microsoft, are the next-generation Web cams that are capable of providing ground-breaking video and audio quality, and generally opening the door to richer communications experiences. The new Web cams are optimized for use with Windows Live Messenger.
Both new Web cams include exclusive features such as the Windows Live Call Button located atop each LifeCam, for placing video calls easily; Buddy Picker for allowing users to see and select from current online buddies; LifeCam Dashboard built into the Windows Live Messenger window for easy access during video calling, as also for easy access to popular controls like pan, tilt, and zoom; and One-touch blogging for posting high definition LifeCam pictures directly onto users' Windows Live Space blogs.
Microsoft claims that the LifeCam VX-6000 is a top-of-the-line wired Web cam that provides the highest quality still photography on the market (5.0 megapixels interpolated), high definition video (1.3 megapixels), and 3x digital zoom. The VX-6000 has a 71-degree wide-angle lens that allows for up to three people to join-in the conversation.
The LifeCam VX-3000, according to the company, provides high definition still photography (1.3 megapixels interpolated), and brilliant video (640x480 pixels).
The two LifeCams also feature a built-in acoustic noise-canceling microphone to ensure crystal-clear audio performance, without adding clutter in the form of extra headsets or external microphones. Additionally, the LifeCams come with fun video effects, such as falling snowflakes and twinkling stars, to personalize and enhance the background of video conversations. The Web cams sport a universal attachment base for easy and secure attachment to virtually any size of monitor.
Tom Gibbons, vice president - consumer productivity experiences group, Microsoft Corp, said, "Each month, people spend more than 1 billion minutes on Windows Live video conversations. It's clear that consumers are now embracing technologies that support relationship-centered digital communications. Microsoft Hardware and Windows Live are defining that movement with a new approach to integrated products and services that give consumers the power to have a richer digital communications experience, and make everyday events extraordinary."
Both LifeCams will be available in August 2006 at a price of $99.95 for LifeCam VX-6000, and $49.95 for LifeCam VX-3000.
