Microsoft India, with an aim to spur innovation, has announced the launch of its 'Voices for Innovation' campaign in India.

'Voices for Innovation' is an open, voluntary network of individuals and companies who support a balanced and pro-innovation policy environment. Designed to generate grassroots momentum, this campaign will serve as a platform for the exchange of ideas, experiences, and opinions between the key stakeholders involved in the process of innovation, with a special focus on SMEs and the rural market.

The campaign was launched in Delhi by Union Minister for Science and Technology, Kapil Sibal, in the presence of the Chairman of the National Manufacturing Competitive Council (NMCC), V Krishnamoorthy, and the Chief Operating Officer of Microsoft India, Doug Hauger.

According to Microsoft, the launch is part of the company's long-term commitment to partner with various parties, including the government, to strengthen the Indian manufacturing sector, especially Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), to be able to compete at the global level.

Speaking at the launch, Sibal said, "Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity and not a threat. 'Voices for Innovation' designed to bring together and service a community of innovators, will provide a platform for a grassroots innovation campaign. The voices will comprise of thought leaders, field experts, as well as actual members of the SME community. Their vast diversity of opinions, experiences, and goals will converge towards the common vision of creating a policy environment conducive to innovation. The 'Voices of Innovation' virtual community, supported by Microsoft, and implemented by the Center for Science, Development, and Media Studies will be the key knowledge sharing platform in the innovation arena."

Commenting on the campaign, Hauger said, "Innovation is a critical component for the creation and building of a knowledge economy in the country. Microsoft is committed to innovation, which will empower people and businesses alike. The launch of 'Voices for Innovation' is a critical step in that direction."

In order to accurately affect important decisions regarding the technology policy debate, governments and officials need to hear the voices of those influencing and influenced by the growth and progress of the industry. And that is why Microsoft has created a way for those voices to speak up through the creation of 'Voices for Innovation'.

'Voices for Innovation' is a community of voices, supported by Microsoft, with differing opinions and different experiences, all working for the same goal - briefing policymakers on the importance of intellectual property protection, investment in research and development, innovation and growth, and consumer welfare.
