Despite Steve Jobs' absence at the event, the roll out of new products continued to excite at Macworld exposition as usual
Apple's presence at Macworld Conference and Expo without Steve Jobs onstage evoked mixed reactions. Jobs cleared the fuss created about his health and Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President for Apple, presented Apple's keynote at the event.
Plenty of rumors got hits or misses this year and we've compiled significant announcements from Apple at Macworld 2009.
17-Inch MacBook Pro got Unibody Revision
Apple unveiled refreshed 17-inch MacBook Pro made from the new unibody enclosure manufacturing process at same price ($2,799) as of previous 17-inch MacBook Pro. Apple also offered a $50 anti-glare job option against their glossy 17-inch MacBook Pro. Intel's low-cost quad core and Blu-ray drive seemed good opportunity missed. Either Mac fans don't care about it or Blu-ray still is 'a bag full of hurts' for Apple. Read more about it here.
iTunes Sheds DRM
Apple's digital media store iTunes finally goes DRM-free with iTunes Plus. But there's a catch: To convert DRMed tracks to DRM-free, Apple is charging the users with previously purchased iTunes songs. Apple indirectly proves that DRM imposition didn't work and charging users sounds for DRM-removal is lame. Read more about it here.
iWork Gets Productivity Updates
Apple's iWork business productivity suite got a bunch of long-anticipated features and, of course, the suite now goes online with iWork.com service. The iWork.com has only limitation of having iWork 09 installed and that's typical Apple gig. Read more about new features added here.
iLife 09 Launched
The iLife 09 suite components like iPhoto 09 got new face-recognition and geo-tagging features. New artists added to GarageBand 09's Artist Lessons. Even iMovie got well-deserved expanded timeline feature. Read more about what else was included in iLife 09 suite here.
Mac Mini update rumor got dumped in Schiller's keynote. No significant announcement for iPhone or iPod Touch users except $1 Keynote App. Apple obviously saved Snow Leopard update for Worldwide Developers Conference.
This year's Macworld might've got loads of exciting stuff, as usual, for developers and hardcore Mac fanboys-users. However, a significant group of online folks including bloggers and tech evangelists saw Macworld 2009 fade in Consumer Electronic Show 2009.
