State-run telecom opertaor Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) on Thursday finally launched its third generation (3G) mobile services, Jadoo, in limited areas of Delhi.

MTNL had soft launched its 3G services in Delhi on December 12th last year.

Here's the information you've been so eager to know about -- 3G TARIFF!

- For activating Jadoo, one needs to pay Rs.500 plus taxes as activation charges and a monthly rental of Rs.599.

- An MTNL-to-MTNL video call will cost Rs.1.80 per minute, while such calls to other networks will cost Rs 3. The voice STD will cost Rs.3.75, and the voice ISD remains as high as Rs.30.

- A voice call on MTNL's own network will cost 60 paise per minute, where calls to other networks will cost Re.1 per minute.

- The domestic and international long distance (STD and ISD) call tariff will be as per the budget plan.

If cheap tariff is what got you excited about this roll-out, hold on the bhangra dance for a bit. These tariffs are promotional offers from the company, which will be valid for 3 months. So be prepared to shell out more money on 3G services once the promotional period gets over.

MTNL chairman and managing director R.S.P. Sinha had promised last month about rolling-out 3G services in Delhi around beginnng of February, and looks like he's kept his word.

"We have spent Rs.300-400 crore (Rs 3-4 billion) on the 3G services roll-out so far," revealed MTNL chairman and managing director R.S.P. Sinha. The company can currently support around 150,000 subscribers on its 3G infrastructure, he said.

MTNL's GARUDA was a complete flop for Mumbai - poor network, outdated handset. Now it is 3G Jadoo.....not sure how many customers will be satisfied with the service and how long will they continue???? MTNL has launched 3G service for the heck of launching....customers will encounter issues just like those on MTNL's GSM network. MTNL hain to moosibat hain hi..................... Customers will be frustated with MTNL's 3G service in near future.

Rs 5 per MB is really insane. Why would people opt for 3G when they can download the same amount of data using EDGE at 5% of the cost. That automatically negates heavy downloads, the reason people would opt for 3G. Pukka Sarkari strategy. Also don.t you all think it is monopolistic for MTNL to launch their 3G service when other palyers are still not allocated spectrum? Does ths come under MRTP act?

really, free data usage not mentioned, and rs.5/MB is really insane, they should recieve unsane stunt bonus. they have spent 300-400 crore on 3g implementation, and they want to earn it back in the very first month.

I really hope MTNL could have been 'blessed' (they really need blessings) with better advertising and marketting strategy.<br> They could have really got some great headstart with this 3G launch. But the pricing and 'cheap' advertisements of MTNL are really a fool's play. God Blees MTNL.
