    MSN Web Messenger Dying

Techtree News Staff, Jun 29, 2009 1814 hrs IST

June 30 to be its last day of existence

    print mail share

Say your last good-byes to the MSN Web messenger, as June 30, 2009 will be the last day of its existence.

Worry not (Web messenger fans) - instead, you will be able to experience the company's new web-based instant messaging (IM) available in Windows Live Hotmail worldwide. Hotmail's new web-based IM allows users to chat from their Hotmail inbox or contact list, instead of going to MSN Web Messenger.

Users can directly go to the Windows Live People page (also known as 'your contact list') at and sign into Messenger to continue instant messaging on the web with Messenger friends.

So how many of you are going to mourn the death of the good old MSN Web messenger?

The new messenger service does not give the service the old web msn did. I have over 1000 contacts in my hotmail address book, so to see who is online in the new messenger at any given time, I have to scroll through loads of pages to see who has a green ball next to their name. Not practical at all. Not a good replacement in my opinion. I will have to find some other way to stay in touch with people. I guess back to texting :o(

This is bollocks. Why have they done this? It makes no sense.

OR instead of using a different service, why not use the service MSN provide along with a thrid party service such as eBuddy or ILoveIM both great applications and allow you to continue using Instant messaging as a way to communicate!

Well, people (Including myself) download instant messenger services because they believe it's a handy way to communicate it's fast, simple, and you can type in single words and or characters.. Listen if we wanted a web inbox messenger we'd just go to myspace.. (Which is probably what people are going to do) and abandon your services.. Myspace is the Number 1 inbox messaging service in the world you simply can't compete with it.. Now with the instant messenger gone people will move on to different IM services and continue to inbox message on myspace facebook or twitter etc. So if you come to your sences you will get back msn messenger.
