Logitech Surround Sound Speaker System
Techtree News Staff Email Print
Mar 11, 2008
Adding to its G-series PC gaming peripherals, Logitech has unveiled the G51 Surround Sound Speaker System, a 5.1 speaker system featuring 360-degree surround sound with dual Matrix modes and dual mute controls.

Logitech claims that with the new system, gamers can enjoy the benefits of 360-degree surround sound -- with or without a multi-channel audio source, and with dual Matrix technology, they can create a 5.1 surround sound experience from any common two-channel stereo source.

Nearly all digital music and legacy games are primed only for stereo or two-channel sound. Using Matrix Surround sound technology, the G51 speakers split the audio signal into six channels of sound, without degrading the audio quality, the company claims.

So those playing games that don't provide six-channel audio will still get to enjoy them. This will enables gamers to gain the competitive advantages of surround sound in first-person-shooter games; for example, users can hear enemies creep up behind them and if they're being shot at, they'll know what direction the bullets are coming from.

Meanwhile, the two Matrix modes -- gaming and music turn stereo sound into 5.1 surround sound. Gaming Matrix mode boosts the rear speakers and subwoofer to provide a more intense gaming experience, while the Music Matrix mode enhances stereo music, delivering a more natural surround-sound experience through all five satellite speakers, the company said.

The G51 speakers feature Frequency Directed Dual Driver (FDD2) technology, which produces a uniform sound field by housing two drivers in each satellite. According to Logitech, FDD2 overcomes high-frequency overlap that leads to uneven sound -- a major barrier to dual driver speakers in the past. The result is uniform, intense sound from any place in the room. And with laser-tuned audio drivers, the speakers provide clear audio with less distortion.

Since gamers like to have personalized gaming peripherals, Logitech is offering mod option, allowing gamers to create their own artwork for the four left and right satellite speakers.

The Logitech G51 Surround Sound Speaker System is available from Neoteric, Origin, and Rashi for around Rs 12,995 along with a two years warranty.
