This upgraded version hopes to skew the gap between professional photographers and serious amateurs.

Adobe Systems has launched Photoshop Lightroom 2 with 64-bit processing support on 64-bit OS platforms - Windows and Mac OS X. Lightroom is a toolbox meant for digital image correction and management.

Lightroom 2 is the first Adobe app to support 64-bit tasks on Intel CPU-based Mac OS X 10.5, running on both Macs and 64-bit Windows Vista operating systems. Designed for skewing the gap between serious amateur photographers and professional photographers, Lightroom 2 is available at a retail price of $299, a price increase of $99 from the original.

Lightroom 2 supports working on multiple monitors, non-destructive local image adjustment, batchwise image processing and streamlined search through photo management across multiple hard drives. On the Mac OS X platform Adobe paces ahead of Apple's Aperture 2 that still has 32-bit support by offering 64-bit processing support.

The new batch processing feature allows viewing and enhancement of multiple photos batch-wise. While the volume management option allows several digital images at different locations on multiple hard drives to be managed and even tagged with keywords for effective search indexing. Lightroom 2 allows photographers to choose between various camera profiles as per their image preferences and requirements for better raw processing workflow. Using those camera profiles with Adobe Camera Raw 4.5 plug-in and DNG Profile Editor, Adobe has extended support of both plug-ins for over 190 camera models.

Amateur shutterbugs can enjoy pro-like working experience with the new Lightroom 2 and streamline better image management, manipulation and control.
