June Sees Rapid Mobile Web Growth

Techtree News Staff, Jul 23, 2008 1542 hrs IST

The AdMob Mobile Metrics Report claims to cover manufacturers, devices, and country-specific data with respect to AdMob's top five markets being the US, UK, India, Indonesia, and South Africa.

AdMob -- that currently claims to serve over 3.5-billion ads per month -- has published its June 2008 Mobile Metrics Report. The main discovery is that traffic from AdMob's network publishers has grown by 104 percent over last year.

AdMob's Mobile Metrics Report is a monthly report, typically the combination of new publishers added plus growth of existing publishers. This month around though the report sees only the growth of a fixed set of publishers -- those who've been serving ads in July last year and are active into this month (a total of 437 sites). The June 2008 Mobile Metrics Report tracks the growth of this fixed group over a period of 12 months, indexing traffic relative to July of last year.

Some of the report's other interesting findings include:

  • AdMob served nearly 3,631,315,700 ads in June 2008, which is a 19.7 percent increase over May 2008. Again, this increase outpaced May's increase of 16.9 percent

  • Indonesian traffic more than doubled in June 2008 to 472 million requests, with Indonesia now becoming AdMob's second largest market

  • Once again, Apple Computer witnessed strong growth, fuelled mainly by its iPhone and iTouch products -- whose combined impressions grew 32 percent month-over-month to reach 52-million in June

  • Smart phones constituted 24.3 percent of ad requests in June, up from 22.4 percent in May

  • US ad requests grew 18.7 percent to - 1.7 billion

  • UK ad requests grew 16.3 percent to - 228 million

  • Nokia N95 gained market share to come a close second after Sony Ericsson's K800i in the United Kingdom

  • By contrast, Motorola lost share in each of the top five markets (US, UK, India, Indonesia, and South Africa) resulting in a 2.2 percent monthly decline in worldwide share

  • Palm meanwhile continued on its strong growth trajectory -- to represent 2.0 percent of all requests worldwide. Incidentally Palm Centro figures number 6 on the list of popular devices in the US with 3.3 percent impressions to its credit

  • The AdMob Mobile Metrics Report claims to store and analyze data from each and every ad request, impression, and click, then using it to optimize ad serving. The report claims to cover manufacturers, devices, and country-specific data with respect to AdMob's top five markets being the US, UK, India, Indonesia, and South Africa.
