Aging people in the US are reportedly turning to mental gymnastics - Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day, a game for Nintendo DS...
For a country that might soon be turning into one full of people on the wrong side of age, its heartening to know that these so-called baby boomers are embracing technology to keep themselves alive and kicking - mentally!
Some social scientists in the US have gone to the extent of saying that these aging people are willing to try out anything and everything to prolong middle age.
Apparently this pre-occupation with exercising the mind transcends boundaries... Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day, a game for the Nintendo DS that is hugely popular with Japan's older set is now gaining ground in the US as well. A combo of reading, quick math, Sudoku and memory elements, Brain Age was created by Nintendo with help from renowned professor and neurologist - Ryuta Kawashima.
Back in the US, Brain Age has got the seal of approval from Dr Elizabeth Zelinski, dean and executive director, Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, University of Southern California.
Zelinski says that Brain Age is a great way for older people to keep challenging themselves, and keep giving themselves that coveted dose of mental stimulation. Gamewise, adults with little or no video gaming experience can also play this game as it does not require any complicated handling.
US Social scientists believe that older people want to indulge in some form of mental gymnastics since many of them have seen their parents develop Alzheimer's and other debilitating mental conditions.
