Intel recently announced that it will stall its Quad Core Intel Core i7 940, 965 chips for retail availability. Following that hiccup, Intel's new quad core chips from Core i7 family showed up at retail web sites PCs For Everyone and Provantage. Intel Core i7 950 and Core i7 Extreme 975 are expected to replace the Core i7 940 and Core i7 Extreme 965 respectively.

Intel's decision to discontinue Intel Core i7 940 and Extreme 965 surely shocked the enthusiasts and gamers. Intel's Core i7 chips are based on 45nm Nehalem architecture that integrates memory controller for faster communication between the processing core and the memory. New 45nm Nehalem quad core Intel Core i7 950 listed at PCs for Everyone will be clocked at 3.06GHz with 8MB of share L3 cache and will support LGA 1366 Socket based motherboards. This processor will work between 0.80V-1.375V voltage range and has 130W thermal power package rating.

The Core i7 950 CPU will replace 2.93GHz Core i7 940 CPU that comes with same - 8MB shared L3 cache, 0.80V-1.375V voltage range and 130W thermal power package rating. So basically, the Core i7 950 listed for $649 (Rs. 31,000 approx.) chip offers a higher frequency with an estimate price difference of $90 (Rs. 4,300 approx.) as Core i7 940 currently listed for $559 (Rs. 26,900 approx.) at Newegg.com.

Intel Core i7 Extreme 975 running at the clock speed was already spotted in February. This Extreme 975 CPU will replace the later out going Extreme 965 CPU clocked at 3.2GHz, 8MB shared L3 cache, voltage range  0.85V 1.3625V and thermal power design of 130W. Now the upcoming Extreme 975 has exactly same specifications but with a higher clock speed. In terms of pricing, again Core i7 Extreme 975 is listed for $1129 (Rs. 54,000 approx.) against Extreme 965 listed for $999 (Rs.48,000 approx) at NewEgg.com.

As listed on the PCs For Everyone website, these new chips are expected to launch/arrive by end of this month - May 31.
