Intel Smiles With Rosy Q2 Revenues

Intel's revenues up by 9% compared to Q2 of last year; touches $9.5 billion.
Intel has happily announced their second quarter results, with revenue touching $9.5 billion. This is a 9 per cent increase compared to Q2 of last year. With strict cost-cutting polices Intel has managed to earn $1.6 billion in Q2 this year. This net income figure is 25 percent higher than last year's net income of $1.4 billion. Despite a fall in total revenue by two per cent in comparison to first quarter of this year, net income shot up by 11 per cent compared to this year's first quarter.
Intel reported revenue of $9.7 billion in the first quarter, with an operating income of $2.3 billion and net income of $1.4 billion (25 cents a share). Although the first quarter tends to be dull after the hefty holiday season in the last quarter of previous year, Intel surprised market with healthy results.
In Q2 of 2008, Intel's per share earnings rose from 22 cents to 28 cents as compared to Q2 of last year. The company continues to inflate earning figures by rolling out mobile CPUs and other chipsets for the mobile platform, especially the low-cost notebooks. View Q2 earnings in detail here
Advanced Micro Devices just entered the mobile platform with their Puma processors in June. Analysts wouldn't definitely look forward for the competition in low-cost notebooks market. Paul Otellini, Intel President and CEO optimistically said, "Intel had another strong quarter with revenue at the high end of expectations and earnings up substantially year over year." Intel happily watches the rise in the demand for its chips and chipsets grow amongst the PC manufacturers and emerging markets.
