Ericsson has partnered with Intel Corp to speed-up the deployment of services and applications on mobile PCs that are powered by Ericsson's mobile broadband and IMS solutions and sport Intel Core Microarchitecture.

The tie is aimed at accelerating the market (consumers and enterprises) uptake of mobile broadband and multimedia services.

The two companies will work towards enabling mobile operators provide attractive mobile broadband service packages to consumers and enterprises, and these packages will include a fast and seamless broadband experience; a secure and fully managed PC environment; and Gen-Next high definition multimedia communication/entertainment/Web services.

The integrated solutions will be based on Ericsson's HSPA platform for mobile broadband, and IMS platform for convergence with Intel Mobile technology, thereby providing the best user experience, security, and reliability.

The collaboration will also include marketing and technology enabling programs for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to develop, validate, and bring to market multimedia applications for mobile networks.

Announcing the tie, Bert Nordberg, Executive Vice President of Ericsson, said, "The mobile PC with embedded mobile broadband represents an exciting and strong revenue opportunity for mobile operators, both for access and services. We feel very pleased to announce this joint initiative with Intel, in which end user convenience is the key deliverable to create opportunity for a mobile broadband mass-market."

Adding to it, Gordon Graylish, Vice President and General Manager of EMEA at Intel, said, "We are very excited about working with Ericsson on enabling rich and easy-to-use multimedia services on the go, working seamlessly over different wireless technologies."

Both companies are interested in stimulating the market to promote open standards and make it easier to create and deploy new services of mobile broadband.

At the ITU Telecom World 2006 taking place in Hong Kong from today through Dec 8, 2006, Ericsson will demonstrate mobile broadband and IMS-based services on mobile PCs powered by HSPA and Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology.
