Indians Big in Online Spending

Surprisingly, 76% spend on digital downloads

Visa had conducted an e-Commerce tracking survey in Asia Pacific and the results were quite surprising. As per the survey, nearly 80 per cent of internet users entered into online transactions and spent an average of over US$3,000 each in the past year.

Amongst the wide range of products and services available online, a majority of the shoppers surveyed online spent on an average US$812 on travel services, which included air and railway tickets, travel packages and hotel accommodation.

The Japanese and Koreans were found to be the most frequent shoppers with 99 percent and 93 percent, respectively. Digital downloads was the most popular form of spending for Indians. Of the Indian respondents, 76 per cent spent on digital downloads of any form over the internet in the last 12 months with music topping the list as the most popular digital download.

Wow! So Indians are actually spending on 'buying' music? As per yesterday's theory, the Indian recoding industry labels should think about striking a deal with Apple for sale of music. We already have data to prove the fact that certain groups of Indians don't mind paying for digital downloads.
