The Centre of e-Governance aims to educate entities that broadly include senior government and defence officials
The Indian wing of Sun Microsystems and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) have jointly announced the set up of the Sun-IIT Delhi Centre of Excellence in e-governance at the IIT Delhi campus.
The centre is an outcome of the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) signed by Sun and IIT in September 2006. The Centre of e-Governance aims to carry out research in related areas of e-governance. It also has a vision to educate entities that broadly include senior government and defence officials. The ultimate aim of the system is to create a better social infrastructure, lower the cost of running the government, and provide enhanced security and better quality of life for Indian citizens.
The Center will also showcase latest technology innovations and solutions to the Government. It will evaluate the impact of technology on the government and society and formulate appropriate IT policy papers. In the past too, it has been organizing various workshops to showcase the latest technologies which are suitable for the implementation of e-governance in the country including Workshop on Datacenters and Workshop for IGNOU.
The IIT hopes this venture will help create a sound technology platform for e-governance projects in the country in the near future.
