The handset -- a Nokia 1100 -- exploded while being charged at a shop dealing in cell phones. It had a BL-5C battery.
The spectre of exploding Nokia batteries looms once again with a second incident reported of a Nokia mobile handset exploding in Asansol in West Bengal.
The handset -- a Nokia 1100 -- exploded while being charged at a shop dealing in cell phones. It had a BL-5C battery. A few weeks back, BL-5C batteries manufactured for Nokia by Matsushita were recalled following reports of overheating.
The shop owner, one Ajit Prasad, said his handset exploded within minutes of putting on charge.
Prasad said that at the time of the battery recall, he had asked for a change but was told it was not required.
In a similar incident two days back, the mobile phone of Kishori Saha of Kolkata exploded while it was being charged.
The five-months pregnant Kishori escaped with minor splinter injuries to her face. However, her phone -- a Nokia 2100 -- contained the BL-D 3 (also manufactured by Matsushita), and not the BL-5C battery.
Kishori said she had put her mobile phone on charge, when suddenly there was a loud bang. The mobile phone had blown up in her face, ripping apart the plastic chair on which it rested.
Husband, Suman Saha, is contemplating legal action against Nokia.
Suman said at the time of the recall, he had checked whether batteries contained in the handsets that belonged to his wife, brother-in-law, and himself needed changing but was told they were fine.
Meanwhile, Nokia said it is working closely with relevant authorities and battery suppliers to investigate these explosions, and that it will take appropriate action.

I am using from 19/8/07 Nokia 3125 Reliance CDMA, I feel sometimes my mobile very hot during charging and long conversation. I m afraid of similar accidents as my battery is also BL-5C. Please comment on it.

wht the hell is wrong with these ppl..these batteries have been in phones for 3 yrs without any problems, but weeks after nokia issues a recall there are cases like these..do these dumbfu**s think they can actually get away with this..product recalls are a fairly common practice..atleast nokia has admitted that there is a problem and given ways to resolve it. could u imagine any indian company doing tht??

look what we people always do, we always used to like nokia, but after a hype, what we see people talking rubbish for that company, nokia in no way produce bad products, what those incidents happened must be a result of old batteries, mishandling(non-cleanliness), duplicate and cheap chargers, look most of these chargers dont stop charging when the battery is fully charged, whereas original chargers halt the charging when the battery is full. so its not the fault of mobile manufacturer, incidences happen, whether it is nokia or sonyE or Motorola. it can happen to any phone, even it happens with UPS batteries. AND REMEMBER THERE IS ALWAYS A RISK ASSOCIATED WITH ELECTRONIC PRODUCT OR COMPONENT. and dont blame nokia, afterall its a company who recalled its batteries worldwide and did not bother about its namesake.

Acctually Mr. Naveenchaudhary might be not awar that similar incident was happend in Europe in 2years back and there was case against Nokia, customers are insisited more on brand than product, and Nokia know that, they to incrise profit margin selling cheap product from China and don't blame people because charger and battaries are provided by Nokia only, people should remember Nokia in no God but a company whom we love only when it present best and safe handset to us not with the life of us.

In these days Nokia left its reserch on Phone and its component rather giving more attention on marketing, that is why I have insisted on Motorola for last 4years, and I beleive if this going on Nokia would lost its 1st positon in Mobile Phone business.

Nokia has to look into this matter closely, and make sure of the safety, one incidence is enough to pull up there socks. Good that these batteries exploded when people were not around. If so there would be a disaster. NOKIA TIME TO PULL UP YOUR STANDARDS
