Huawei has announced its first Android-based handset at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC). The Chinese telecom major had joined the Open Handset Alliance back in 2008 promising to deliver the goods by early 2009, and prima facie it seems the company is on track. While we do not have details about the handset, the company has confirmed a Q3 availability. The only information we do have is that the design resembles an iPhone. The Huawei stall at the MWC only had a non-working sample of the handset.
Huawei says it has "partnered with an established design consultancy to develop a robust and user-friendly interface, creating a powerful customer experience that is able to evolve with operators differentiation requirements." As of now it remains to be seen if this means a customized interface running over the Android OS.
