If you're a Facebook addict, browsing through pages and pages of updates, latest pictures, links to videos, and all that, must consume a lot of bandwidth.

The fact is that many Facebook fans aren't lucky enough to get on with the virtual socializing 'fast enough'. Mostly for such users, Facebook is testing its lighter, stripped down version called 'Facebook Lite' that will be snappier to use.

The Facebook Lite version will load specific features quickly.

It will enable people to make comments, accept Friend requests, write on people's Walls, and look at photos and Status updates.

Facebook is currently testing Facebook Lite in countries where it sees lots of new users coming to Facebook for the first time and are looking to start off with a more simple experience.

Some Facebook users have received an invitation to try out this version:

The URL for the feature is http://lite.facebook.com; don't expect it to work for you.

However, this invitation send out was a mistake and Facebook wasn't actually ready to roll out the public testing of this feature just yet. Oh well...

Reports suggest that people who were able to try out Facebook Lite did not find anything significantly different in the version.

Some Expectations Voiced on Twitter:

@ "FacebookLite: the answer to all those angry outbursts I've been making at monitors around the globe? Hoping for loadtimes < 20sec please"

@ "I like the idea of a lite version of facebook without ANY APPS, wait that's just what it used to be like."
